Apple Pro Res 25p codec (Final Cut Studio) - Premiere Pro Wi...

Hi,

Is there any open-source or other alternative way to be able to encode to Apple Pro Res 25P using Premiere Pro on Windows?
I don't have access to Final Cut Studio or a Mac.
I understand that this codec normally only comes with FCS? I also understand that a decoder codec is available from Apple to view such encoded files, but I need to encode to this format!
Is it?simply?a case of somebody being nice and sending me a link to download the codec?!
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Pro Res is an Apple proprietary codec. I doubt you’ll ever see a Windows based encoder. Your best option would be to export from Premiere using a loss-less codec and have and it encoded to ProRes on a Mac.

The only to encode on a Windows based machine would be to send to a Final Cut Server on your network or use a hardware based econder.

Very cool - thanks for that link...

I've been using Shake for making automated quicktimes for ages now - it's not the most fun in the world, but it does the job... This'll give me far more flexibility...

Thanks

Command line Shake is also a great solution, and has the advantage of being able to import/export image sequences. qt_export is a great tool, but it only knows how to transcode QuickTime files, so you may need something else in the pipeline to convert image files into an uncompressed QuickTime. Ahhh - I was hoping that qt_export could take in image sequences...

To be honest, thinking about it, I will almost certainly stick with Shake - I use Shake for doing colour space transformations and burnins already, and it would be silly to lose that...

Re: Apple Pro Res 25p codec (Final Cut Studio) - Premiere Pr...

Shake is hard to beat for these things ... the only real hassle is creating the "magic number" field for the QT output. It's a 128 byte (I think) string that encodes the codec, resolution, frame rate, etc. as one big horrible blob of data and it's pretty much impossible to reverse engineer. Usually the easier route is gin up a few Shake templates for the most common codecs, frame rates, and resolutions and put it together in a script that spits out the desired magic number, and pass that as a command line argument. Still ... worth the trouble.
