My experience is that if you want support from Autodesk, then all the hardware needs to be Autodesk certified. Certainly 3rd party hardware like storage will work with the software these days but if you call in a support ticket and the system ID isn't
in their system you may be SOL. Yes we purchase our upgrades through an Autodesk reseller. They're called value added resellers for a reason. Good luck, Ryan Ryan

I?d appreciate your help on the following issues: We have several Flames running on PC/Linux. Some of them are running on PCs that are old and therefore have outdated configurations and we are looking forward on upgrading them to the latest and greatest. Do you usually upgrade your hardware by purchasing it directly from HP (Autodesk certified configuration), or does it need to be purchased thru Autodesk/Reseller? We received a budget from a local reseller and the cost seems incredibly high just to exchange the PC hardware. The software in up to date. We are running Flame 2010 but all of our systems are under Subscription and we have already received Flame 2011. What we need to change is the hardware. We are also planning to install Burn 2011 in our facility. We?d like to know what hardware you guys are using. Autodesk Burn 2011 documentation says that only QuadroFX 3800 and 3700 are certified. We are also starting to upgrade our Network infraestructure to 10GigE and would like to know if any of you are using Burn Rendernodes with 10GigE. Here?s a link to a network card that we?d like to use in our Flame and Burn Rendernodes. http://www.myri.com/Myri-10G/NIC/10G-PCIE-8B-2C.html This card has 2 ports. One would be used for failover. This is the one that Autodesk has certified: http://www.myri.com/Myri-10G/NIC/10G-PCIE-8A-C.html It has 1 port. My understanding is that as far as "systems" products are concerned, except for Flare and Burn, you still have to purchase the system from Autodesk, otherwise they will not issue/transfer a license to it. For Burn, we purchased HP DL160G5+FX3700+IB systems from Autodesk back when they were selling "turnkey" Burn systems, but I believe they no longer do so. For Burn, it used to be that given the fairly expensive license, you were better off getting fewer systems with better CPUs and GPUs. Now that the licenses are "free", it may change the economics, although you typically have to factor in the price of Sparks licenses as well. Provantage sells the HP version of the FX3800 for $709, I would just go with that rather than trying to save a few hundred $100s per system and have to deal with all sorts of possible graphics-related issues.
