50Mb/s would be pretty low for HD with the T-VIPS. I recall needing 80Mb+ to get a decent HD image. The ultra-low latency and image quality is awesome, though, given sufficient bandwidth.

For sub-50Mb/s links, you could consider an MPEG2 or MPEG4 codec from Tandberg or Fujitsu. They're  higher latency, but good quality at those bit rates.

I've never tried any of these on public Internet links, only private WAN, so I haven't a clue how well they'd perform on the Internet.
