Re: FusionIO for Malf(x)'d and overloaded DB's and MORE

Saker - come on, no price is too much when we are making (start the harps playing) M-O-V-I-E M-A-G-IC!!

"off we go" ... "follow me"...to the ATM machine - you forgot to add that part.

The technology is great but thr price tag is pretty high.  The contractors or  people who spend my tax dollars on these  might not have a problem buying them but in the VFX industry most of us have to turn 10 cents into a dollar. I say most because I know people like prime focus  use fusion io but they were an early adopter so I wonder what they paid.

We have deployed a bunch of OCZ cards at a tenth of the price. Non have failed yet. Regardless of fusion io , OCZ or LSI's new one. Do lots of backups as the tech is still being proven.

We have used this first year to deploy mostly for playback / local cache for the majority of applications. Like nuke and RV flippbooking. I have one in use in a flame :) for testing and another we just put in our profile server which gets hit on all day with various file sizes and requests.

That's just my 2 cents maybe the price tag has come down. Maybe you can give us some realistic  pricing...

Hey Gang

Look out for this technology which I have been involved with for a few months. I have solved a few MySQL issues in the field, and I have seen some SysAdminBash and StudioSysAdmins postings that might very well be interested in giving these guys a call!!! I am working with Vince and Mark Noland at FusionIO for a while discussing specifics of how the FusionIO PCI-X Cards behave as added RAM (pagefilesys & mounting /swap). So for example, if your MySQL server Database has fattened with 3rd party Data Asset Management crap, then off we go to the FusionIO folks to get you out of trouble. If you need immediate scratch on your renders, or if you need that realtime 4K enviro for video, then off we go to the FusionIO folks. If you are involved with military and defense contracts (:))), then....follow me.

Specifically, you guys can contact Mark Noland at FusionIO (he signed up this morning), and get a meeting and tech demo going. If you need technical details, just send me an email too (mohnen@wavgen.com). The cards come as 128GB all the way through to 4TB. And access speeds are 100x faster than solid state drives!!!!!

In a nutshell:

9X improvement on My SQL:

40X improvement on Oracle:

Is it worth mentioning M$ SQL Server here?

Anyone doing VM work should take a look too:

All of the supported flavors of *NIX are being optimized currently.

Nice example about the Fusion IO stuff at Prime Focus:

When you have a Fusion card in your system and share the contents, speed-wise it's like have a SAN.
You can saturate a 4 way infiniband pipe form point to point.

FYI - did I forget to mention that Mr. Wozniak is "Research Scientist" at FusionIO :)))

Best
