That would have been my suggestion as well, although pretty time consuming.

Hi all,
Currently we are running a mixed OS environment, using both Mac OSX and Windows for work stations. Our file server is Windows based, using NTFS as the file system.
Problem: Users on the Mac systems, have created files in the file server, which contain illegal NTFS characters, more specifically, they have created files with spaces at the end of the file name. Example: "filename ". Windows is supposed to strip that space, but in these instances, it has not. Now, because the filenames are illegal, we cannot move, modify or delete these files.
The file server in question is a live system, and cannot be shut down, which means, we cannot mount the drive in another file system such as Free BSD or Linux to try and resolve the issue.
MS's Solutions: There a few possible solutions that Microsoft has provided( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320081), but the main one which was the 8.3 filename fix (cause 4, resolution 1) did not work, the file remained.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to remove(or rename) these illegal files?
thanks!
