Yeah, I agree with Anthony.
Check out LifeSize. We just got our’s before Christmas. Full HD,
easy to setup, and requires low bandwidth. Lots of inputs that you can ‘send’
to the other side.

for he uber rich mega corps any longer, and you can't beat the
quaility/experience. The portfolio has expanded to include smaller units, for
small groups you could look at the 1100 or 1300 series. 2010/1/23 Stefan Maletych <a
href="mailto:stefan@567vfx.ca"stefan@567vfx.ca> I've purchased a lifesize unit for a client about a year ago
- no problems whatsoever...and they're a lot cheaper than polycom and offer the
same quality..
Sent from my iPhone We use the Polycom VSX kit. Didn't really have a choice in the matter it just kinda
showed up one day. Aside from the annoyance of the licensing every useful
feature (probably a trick they learned from Cisco) the quality is decent and
the multi-point (if you have the license installed) seems to work pretty well.
A few cases we have some feed back in the audio (ie. we hear our own
voice coming out of the local speaker which feeds back into the mic etc) but I
think that's probably user error or something. Speaks regular H323 so
I've managed to connect it via STUN to my MacBook Pro with Xmeeting which is kinda
cool, anyone know of any decent H323 clients for the Windows? I know you
need to invest in a SIP->H323 gateway to make Skype work (would be a killer
feature if it was just built in to either skype or the polycom unit). Links to India and UK work fine and I use it a few times a
week between Winnipeg, LA and Vancouver without issue. Aspera + Video conferencing = grief unless you have both
boxes behind some kind of QoS DMZ. Well Aspera cranked and any other net application is grief
so I wouldn't blame the vidcon kit though the polycom adapts to the latency and
throughput starvation pretty damned well (ie. hasn't crashed yet). I used to work for a telco and it left me with a bitter
after taste so any way I can disintermediate from having to deal with said
telco the better. :) On 2010-01-22, at 8:13 PM, Anthony Lopez wrote:
Lifesize has been great for us. Low bandwidth compared to
tanberg or polycom and quality is great. Also I believe its cheaper than
those 2. We’ve used it to from California to India and Canada. We have customers using both, as
well as Tandberg. At my previous company we deployed the Tandberg video
conference system. IIRC, it was recently acquired by Cisco. The
images were beautiful over a link to India (don't recall the bandwidth we used,
but it was less than 45Mb). From what I've heard, Halo can be a bit
hungry for bandwidth, so be sure you take that into consideration when making
your decision. Most of the companies will let you eval their gear, so be
sure to take full advantage of that, too.
---Ken What,
if anything, are you using for video conferencing? Our LA and New York offices
have been using Skype and iChat for video conferences but it’s time to up in
quality. I am looking into the HP Halo and Polycom solutions. Does anyone have
any other recommendations? I
am looking for HD (720p and 1080p) quality with the option for content sharing. It’s
unknown right now if this will be a point to point system or whether or not we
will be adding multiple sites. If multiple then all sites will need to be on
the conference simultaneously.
