EditShare w/ After Effects

Anyone have experience to share about EditShare? We've recently picked up a client with an existing EditShare system in house and have seen nothing but problems.


Brief overview:


They are trying to use the EditShare as shared storage for a group of 5 Mac Pro workstations and a 4 node Xserve renderfarm, primarily for AE and Maya usage. All are connecting via SMB, not using DAVE due to incompatibilities with Unity. We've seen copious hidden file problems (._ and .DS_ etc., not really a surprise), but also permission, duplicate file and general file access issues when accessing through the finder. Maya is working flawlessly, but the AE artists have despaired of using it at this point.
