Hi all, We want to implement an internal website. Looking at Turnkey’s Drupal and Joomla. Joomla looks more easy to deploy and Drupal looks solid... We just want to share some information in the local network and hopefully there won’t be much dynamic content. Is there any other solution which we might not be knowing? Kindly advice. Thirded(?) MediaWiki. Though there is obviously a difference in ethics between an intranet and a wiki. I.E. security of 'hidden' pages and everyone's view all capability. Mediawiki offers some level of control if you setup different groups of users and permissions, though munging these to what you need in such instances can be 'fun'. If you want completely open viewing, then a wiki is an easier choice. Depends what want to use it for, as usual ;) We used DokuWiki for a while a few years ago, not bad but then we tried to use it to create and edit tables For shotlists & roughsheets. Maybe things have evolved since, but for tables, it wasn't nice at all to Work with. I'd be surprised if any Wiki is good with table creation and edition ATM.... Unless you want/can customise heavily I guess. I've never hit the issue that Fabrice is describing, so this has potentially been solved - I'd say its as good as gold and it integrates very well with all LDAP structures, etc. On 06/07/2010, Fabrice Altman fabrice@studioaka.co.uk wrote: > Depends what want to use it for, as usual ;) > > We used DokuWiki for a while a few years ago, not bad but then we tried to > use it to create and edit tables > For shotlists & roughsheets. I love DokuWiki but if you're going to have n00bs using it the lack of a WYSIWYG editor is a hindrance to widespread adoption. We use MoinMoin here which is very good. WYSIWYG and raw text edit modes, whole Wiki and page level access control lists, LDAP support for authentication. Regarding the original question about content management systems. I've used Drupal and Joomla in the past. Drupal is very easy to set up and manage because it's a pretty basic system. Joomla has much more functionality and, as a result, much more complexity. The solution you end up with depends on the nature of the content you wish to provide, who you audience is and who will be responsible for creating and maintaining the content. -- Shane McEwan Aardman Animations - 1410 Aztec West, Bristol, BS32 4RT Phone: 01454 859000 Ext: 4448 Mobile: 07733 295 808 From: studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com [studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com] on behalf of Dan Young [vfx.it.london@gmail.com] Sent: 06 July 2010 14:31 To: discuss@studiosysadmins.com Subject: Re: [SSA-Discuss] Intranet website suggestions I've never hit the issue that Fabrice is describing, so this has potentially been solved - I'd say its as good as gold and it integrates very well with all LDAP structures, etc. WYSIWYG is indeed a must for new users. Here we are using MediaWiki combined with FCKeditor (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:FCKeditor_%28by_FCKeditor_and_Wikia%29), which will let you easily switch between code and rich text editor. It is excellent for general and IT documentation. Francis On 06/07/2010 9:54 AM, Shane McEwan wrote:

Our requirement is an internal website which has corporate info, other relevant corporate information, news and other stuff, just simple web pages.. We are not even planning to integrate with AD. Just a site to serve information. We don't want users to edit or contribute. They don't even need to login to see the pages. :-) -----Original Message----- From: studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com [mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com] On Behalf Of Dan Young Sent: 06 July 2010 19:01 To: discuss@studiosysadmins.com Subject: Re: [SSA-Discuss] Intranet website suggestions I've never hit the issue that Fabrice is describing, so this has potentially been solved - I'd say its as good as gold and it integrates very well with all LDAP structures, etc. On 06/07/2010, Fabrice Altman fabrice@studioaka.co.uk wrote: > Depends what want to use it for, as usual ;) > > We used DokuWiki for a while a few years ago, not bad but then we tried to > use it to create and edit tables > For shotlists & roughsheets. ...that sounds to me even something like Wordpress would do the trick - great for simple CMS sites and obviously has got blogging build in as well. 2010/7/6 Sysadmin <sysadmin@toonzanimationindia.com> |

Thank you all for the suggestions... Will post when we decide which is manageable for us... We are trying out with VM images...joomla looks the best bet so far, with its extensions and all ... We liked Media Wiki but seems, noobs like us might have to put a bit more time and effort.. which we might not be able to do... :-) -----Original Message----- From: studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com [mailto:studiosysadmins-discuss-bounces@studiosysadmins.com] On Behalf Of Dan Young Sent: 06 July 2010 22:43 To: discuss@studiosysadmins.com Subject: Re: [SSA-Discuss] Intranet website suggestions Tumblr is pretty snazzy for super simple stuff too... It sounds like you want less of a wiki / kb and more of a portal. In that case movable type or the ones that you mentioned should be great.

If you want a windows/linux VM based wiki which has all the capabilities of Mediawiki + FCKeditor + security permissions (AD/LDAP), a desktop/microsoft office connector for instant upload + print distiller (if the program prints, it can upload to the wiki), then you should consider.... dekiwiki - ?a hidden gem in the minefield of wiki land.
