Terminal Emulator for Mac

Terminal Emulator for MacHello all,

I’m back in the Mac world after, ohhhh since 1991.  Yes folks System7.  Anyhoo, I’m looking for a terminal emulator that will get me serial connections.  Also I just purchased an IOgear USB:Serial adapter.  Finally got the driver working, but I hear the prolific chip kind of blows.  Web comment indicate some instability.  Any recommendations on a USB:serial adapter would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers,

Re: Terminal Emulator for Mac

screen /dev/tty.usbserial 19200

'Nuff said. :)  Should be in base install.

ZTerm also works very well and supports Z/X/*modem protocols (that's all I use it for these days for updating firmware on stuff).
Prolific gear may not be break-safe though if you are not using any old SPARC gear that shouldn't be a problem.

I've been using a prolific based chipset for years, paid a bit more than I would have liked but when I picked up the SUPER cheap variants 3 of 5 were broken.  The KeySpan devices are really nice but I've had 3 die on me in the past few years.

I use prolific based USB serial adapter and a USB to CAT5 adapter with my in house wiring to a USB hub so I can serial in to my router (a NET4501 screwed on to a wall of my utility room) from the comfort of my desk.

Re: Terminal Emulator for Mac

Hey there, You can use screen:

http://www.tigoe.net/pcomp/resources/archives/avr/000749.shtml

and

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20061109133825654

or just go with Zterm

http://homepage.mac.com/dalverson/zterm/

I have recently connected to a Vtrak Promise via serial-to-usb using screen and it worked just fine, got my usb-to-serial at cables to go.
