Smoke & Mirrors, one of the world’s largest post production studios based in 8 countries, are looking for a Senior Post Production Engineer. Reporting to the CTO, this position will provide technical support for all of the Company's post production systems.

You will have a broad technical knowledge and a good understanding of the post production process, from acquisition through editing, grading and visual effects to final deliverables.  You will provide a hands-on, think-outside-of-the-box approach when problem solving with the experience to be able to find flaws and suggest improvements.

You will have a proactive, service-minded approach and will provide day-to-day support for the company’s Creative Operators as well as responding to alerts and emergencies in a quick and timely manner.  Additional responsibilities will include technical design, planning and implementation of new systems, configuration and recommending updates of existing systems and system applications.

You will also support the more junior members of the department, offering them guidance and advice when appropriate, so they gain more experience and knowledge.


Skills and Experience:

12+ years’ experience working in a post-production environment

Essential - experience with and good working knowledge of the following, with specific application within a post production environment:

  • Linux, Windows and OSX systems
  • Production Software: Flame, Resolve, Baselight, Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Avid, Adobe, Vantage, eFF
  • Production centric workstations, servers and storage
  • Clustered file systems and high availability computing systems
  • Render farms (software and hardware) and render managers – preferably Deadline
  • Digital acquisition and delivery formats
  • Colour science and EBU/SMPTE technical standards
  • 1GbE and 10GbE networking equipment and security
  • Server Virtualisation – preferably VMWare
  • Common networking services - DHCP, DNS, SMTP, NFS, CIFS
  • Scripting languages, preferably Python and Bash

Desirable - experience of:

  • Virtualisation of production workstations, render and storage – either in a private or public data centre
  • DAM / MAM systems
  • Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Group Policy


Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical people face to face or via email.

Ability to learn quickly and implement new technology.

Ability to work alone as well as part of a team.

Have a proactive, flexible approach and actively suggest new ideas that would benefit the company.
