Summary:

 

The Manager, Software will provide the direction and resource allocation for a cross functional team tasked with the development of the tools and workflows used to create digitally animated feature films. By directly managing engineers and potentially project managers, he/she is accountable for time, budget, and quality of solutions delivered.

The Manager, Software will work in tandem with a Software Leads to manage multiple software projects. The Manager will be responsible for the project and people management aspects while the Technical Lead will provide the technical vision and direction. The Manager needs to have a technical understanding of and proven experience with agile software development. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for creating department wide project management practices. The Manager will utilize their advanced skills in matrixed project leadership to shape the future of technology at the studio.

Keys to success in this area are the successful negotiation of competing demands, and ensuring sufficient resources (human, capital, technology) to meet needs while keeping within the budget constraints of the studio. These keys are enabled by building outstanding relationships with other technology departments and film productions, and by promoting dependability and group leadership.

This is a technical manager position requiring both software development project leadership experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the proven ability to hire and support developers of all experience levels.

Duties:


• Overall roadmap & direction for cross-functional team
• Overall resource allocation for simultaneous and ongoing projects/products
• Effectively manage and balance maintenance and new feature development as per Studio priorities
• Act as trusted advisor and consultant to Productions and Studio leadership
• Works closely with other Technology Managers to ensure efficient communication of team objectives
• Work closely with Project Managers to ensure high level objectives are clearly understood and communicated
• Build an effective development organization through mentoring and leadership
• Career development of each member of the team including meeting regularly with employees
• Conducting performance reviews of team members
• Ensuring excellence in group is acknowledged and rewarded

Requirements:


• BS or higher in technical field
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience
• 3+ years of project or program management experience
• 3+ years of experience leading teams of 10 or larger
• Proven experience managing software releases and managing multiple projects with competing priorities
• Understanding of a variety of formal project management methodologies (PMI, Six Sigma, etc.)
• Experience with Object Oriented software development preferred
• Direct experience in developing large complex computer graphics packages preferred
• Experience with the schedules and rhythms of creative endeavors such as motion picture or video game production preferred
