Hammerhead Productions, is a small to mid-sized feature film VFX company in Sherman Oaks, CA that has been in business for 15 years. We are currently looking for a highly qualified full-time Systems Administrator with experience in feature film VFX production. This position reports to the heads of the company and provides technical support to everyone in the company while working closely with in-house producers, show supervisors and artists.
Responsibilities:
Research, design and integrate new VFX workflows and pipelines as well as trouble-shoot, maintain and upgrade existing setups.
Research technology based on the needs of upcoming projects.
Manage and allocate storage server space for shows.
Respond to trouble tickets (through Redmine) and provide support to all users.
Trouble-shoot problems faced by VFX artists.
Install, upgrade and trouble-shoot all software (Maya, Renderman, Mental Ray, Shake, Nuke, 3dsMax, FlexLM, RUSH, Backbuner, etc).
Design, build and maintain high end Linux workstations and render nodes.
Maintain Linux servers running NIS, DNS, DHCP, NTP, NFS, FTP, MySQL, PHP, etc.
Manage all backups (Netvault, LTO1, LTO4, tar and rsync).
Maintain asset/production management tools such as Tactic, Shotgun, etc.
Maintain technical documentation in our Wiki system.
Required skills:
5+ years experience as a Systems Administrator in feature film VFX and/or animation environment.
Experience with Linux/Unix, OS X and Windows and cross-platform integration.
VERY SOLID experience with Linux and Unix systems administration is a MUST.
In-depth knowledge of storage servers (Cluster filesystems, NAS, SAN, RAID, etc).
Network monitoring and trending tools such as Cacti, Nagios, etc.
Network switches, routers/firewalls, VPN, network security, etc.
Knowledge of programming (Python, PERL, C, shell scripting).
Self motivation and a strong desire to learn and stay abreast of industry developments/standards.
Resourceful problem solving.
Pleasant, customer service-oriented personality.
Ability to prioritize, respond, and follow through on multiple requests in a dynamic work environment.
Excellent tracking and follow-through ability.
Excellent attention to detail.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Degree in Computer Science preferred.
MUST be legal to work in the United States.
MUST reside in Los Angeles, CA.
