About Pixar Canada
 
Pixar Canada is looking for a Production Software Engineer for its new studio in Vancouver.  Pixar Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pixar Animation Studios, the world leader in animated films.  The Vancouver studio will produce short-form animation focusing on legacy Pixar characters from films such as Toy Story and Cars.  This is an early hire to support the set up, build out, and on-going facilities management at the studio. This is an opportunity to develop and maintain an infrastructure that nurtures and inspires Pixar Canada’s creative culture.
 
Summary of Position
 
The Production Software Engineer will be able to write programs and systems to support the production of digital models, shaders, effects, and imagery. Additionally, he or she will design, maintain and support databases, digital asset information systems, automation scripts and internal web applications. Production Software Engineers troubleshoots technical problems that arise in the production process.
 
Responsibilities
  • Work with creative, technical and operational leads to develop multi-platform information systems to track production assets, tasks and statuses.
  • Administer production databases, including table design, tuning, developing robust API's for integration with other tools, and system redundancy.
  • Architect, design, implement and maintain internal web applications, including the technology stack framework.
  • Maintain and enhance completed results. Provide technical support to users.  Produce author related documentation. 
Qualifications
  • Professional experience with relational databases and database theory.
  • Professional web-application development and web-fronted databases.
  • Strong Unix programming and administration skill.
  • Strong Python and SQL (or equivalent) coding skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including end user support and requirements gathering.
  • Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressures.
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
In addition to these required qualifications, any of the following attributes will be considered a plus:
  • Education in computer science, mathematics, physics, architecture, or engineering.
  • Theory and practice with the Model-View-Controller design pattern and LAMP-style technology stacks.
  • Experience with film, games, or other graphics production.
  • Experience with high availability and dynamic, distributed load balancing systems.
  • Elegant User Interface Design and Usability skills.
