SUMMARY

 

IMAX Corporation is seeking a Linux/Unix/Window System Administration  to assist the Digital System Administrator in providing technical support to high-profile film projects.  This is a full-time contract position for a period of approximately 4 months.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Install or reinstall Linux (Fedora or CentOS experience preferred)/Unix/Window OS on a multi-server distributed computing and post-production system.
  • Monitor the operation of the multi-server distributed computing and post-production system, track the system logs and prevent potential problems.  Manage disk usage and network loads.
  • Set up hardware, software and system data file structure for specific film production projects.  Check and repair Linux/Unix file systems.
  • Provide daily technical support to the film production team.  Transfer data files to specific servers as required.
  • Install or reinstall proprietary and commercial graphics software.  Debug problems related to hardware or OS.
  • Responsible for tape drive I/O operation, monitoring and scheduling.
  • Write shell scripts (Bourne & Perl) for task scheduling and automation.  Schedule recurring maintenance and monitoring tasks with Linux Cron and Crontab.
  • Responsible for hardware debugging and replacement.  Set up external hard drives for file exchange with external customers.
  • Responsible for daily 3D preview screenings.  Compile image data stream for display.  Operate digital projectors.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Experience as UNIX/Linux system administrator for high data traffic sites with multiple servers in 24/7 operation.
  • 2 years of experience with script programming.
  • 1 year of experience with network administration.
  • 1 year of experience with MySQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows user administration.
  • In-depth understanding of NFS/RAID, FTP, TAR, DTF tape system.
  • Experience of working a film/video post-production environment preferred.
  • Ability to work over-time, evenings and weekends.
