HAPPY BIRTHDAY STUDIOSYSADMINS!!!

Helping to improve Digital Content Creation though technology for 3 years!!!

StudioSysAdmins thrives to share non-proprietary information between studios, consultants, vendors and resellers to allow studios to build, manage and support their infrastructure and pipelines to bring better content to the Entertainment Industry. By sharing information and helping each other we continue to build better studios by reducing overhead costs and allowing new products to be accepted more easily.

Earlier this week the StudioSysAdmins community reached it's 3rd Anniversary! We've been steadily growing since we started on September 5th, 2008. With 1356 registered members from 683 registered companies (411 Production Studios, Production Training Facilities and/or Visualization Labs). A truly global community with members from 86 major cities from 32 countries.

We would like to thank all our Vendors and Resellers who helped sponsor our meetings and events. In the past year we have held 19 local area meetings in 8 different cities such as London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver. We have also participated in or help sponsor 27 other industry related events. As our community and reach continues to grow we will add more cities for local area meetings and participate in even more events.

We would like to thank all our Members for participating in the forums and at the events. Sharing knowledge is the key of making a great and lasting community. Keep up the great work!

This year at SIGGRAPH we talked about new things that would happen with the group this year. Everyone keep an eye out for the exciting changes.

A lot has been happening so far this year at StudioSysAdmins and we have a lot more planned to help bring the group to the next level.

We continue to grow our membership (currently 1200 members)

In the past 4 months (since we reached 1000) we've had 200 new members, 97 new companies (60 of those have been studios)

Our distributions lists continue to be very active. Keep up the great work and keep spreading the word.

We had a great turn out for both Meet and Greet events at NAB in Las Vegas thanks to Alacritech and Avere Systems.

We are just finalizing sponsorship and plans for an event @ SIGGRAPH in Vancouver - look for more information on that soon.

Should continue to be a very interesting year and future for StudioSysAdmins.

StudioSysAdmins has reached 1000 registered members!!!

It's been just over 2 years and 4 months since StudioSysAdmins was started and it continues to grow much faster than anticipated.

This year we expect even faster growth for the community with additional improvements of the web-site, content, participation in more local area meetings, events and tradeshows. We also expect to start working on additional technical projects to continue to help studios improve their pipeline.

To date we have members from 74 major cities located in 27 different countries representing 523 companies (313 production studios, visualization labs and/or training facilities, 58 consulting firms, 102 vendors and 50 value-added resellers) and hold local area meetings in 8 of these cities (London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and Vancouver).  As our membership expands in other cities, we hope to add even more.

Since our last anniversary; September 4th, 2010, we have already surpassed many of our goals from previous years.  184 new members from 95 new companies, 9 local area meetings, participated in 16 events, over 2500 new forum posts, 32 new job listings, and 73 products added to our directory - and so much more to come with 2/3 of the year still to go.

We would like to thank everyone for all their support and participation in the community - it's been great - keep up the good work!!!

StudioSysAdmins is working hard to bring the community closer together. In the past month and a half since our anniversary we are almost surpassing the amount of information being shared between studios as we did the entire first year. Year 3 is looking bright and we are looking forward to increased expansion of our community and local area meetings.

This year we have already had first meetings in London, New York, and San Francisco with many more to come.  In November we have 2 meetings booked for Toronto, with Los Angeles, Montreal, Sydney, and Vancouver making plans. Keep spreading the word and help us get more people involved. We currently have over 900 Members from almost 500 Companies (almost 300 Studios, Visualization Labs and Schools).

A new look for the web-site has been in progress over the last couple of weeks with a lot more exciting things on the list to be added and implemented. Please visit the site often and see the progress and information.

EVENTS and RSVPs

Recently we have added RSVPs for meetings and events so you can see who else is registered to help make your decision of attending. We have opened up the Events to include other industry related events as well. If you wish to help promote your own event, please send an email to Events@StudioSysAdmins.com with the dates, outline and an 800x100 banner.

COMPANIES and PRODUCTS

We have started the first steps of adding products to the site. This feature allows Vendors to advertise their products on the site. There is no cost involved with this feature. We just ask that you be a member of the StudioSysAdmins community. If you are interested in the advertising your product, please send an email to Products@StudioSysAdmins.com with the product name, URL, description and an 200x100 image.

The plan for this section will enable Resellers to select the products they sell and allow Studios to select the products they use. With this information, members will be able to search for products based on specified functions and areas and help them with their decision making. You will be able to see the products available, who sells them and who uses them.

JOB BOARD

The job board has been working well over 52 jobs have been postes since this feature was added to the site. Please let your HR and/or Recruiting departments know that this feature is available.

USED GEAR

If you are looking to clear up some space, retire your old gear, or looking for parts. You can post it on the site free of charge and spread the word.

COMMUNITY CONTENT

BLOGS

If you wish to share more formalized documentation, tests results, or industry related information with the group, why not set up your own Blog area. If you arleady have a blog, it would be great if you could repost your information on the StudioSysAdmins site with a link back to the original article.

FORUMS

In the forums section we are working to allow easier searching of threads and the ability to reply to our distribution lists through the site.  To date, we have almost 1200 threads with over 7500 replies.  The distribution lists have been a great source of information to many of our members, and continues to be the most heavily used part of the site.

GALLERIES

A quick refresh of the galley section where members can continue to share pictures of their studios, local meetings and tradeshow memories.

WIKIs

The WIKI section is also being worked on to be expanded to be used for collaboration on projects.  Several projects have already been mentioned like Standardization and the Sharing of Resources. Participation in these projects is encouraged by everyone.

2nd Anniversary

September 5th, 2010 marked our 2nd Anniversary. In the past two years we have grown the community much faster and further then anticipated. We now have members from 66 major cities in 24 countries representing 430 companies (261 of those are Studios) and continue to grown on a daily basis. We have 818 registered members with a lot more lurking in the background.

In the past year we have added more cities to the list to hold local meetings. This year we will be having regular meetings in London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Our website has been successful in bringing the community together at shows and on-line. In the past two years we have held 17 meetings and participated in 13 events with already more scheduled for the coming months.  Our on-line forum has over 1000 threads and over 6500 replies. News, Blogs, Wikis, Forums, Galleries, Job Board, and Used Gear are also making headlines.  We encourage everyone to start using the web-site more and more and look for exciting new features in the coming year.

I would like to personally thank everyone for their contribution and continuing support. Without you this community would not be possible. An extra thank you goes to the executive team that coordinate local area meetings and events.

September 5th, 2009 marks the First Anniversary of StudioSysAdmins.

In the past year, we've grown to 366 Members - on average - a new member every day!

One of our goals this year was to have meetings in 4 different cities - at the end of this month - we will have reached 3 cities with regular meetings in Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver. We almost have enough members in several other cities including London, Montreal, New York, San Francisco, and Sydney. If we continue to increase our membership we should be able to start local meetings in those areas soon. We are still looking to boost our numbers in certain areas of expertise which we currently do not have a large number of Members. We would like to see more Game Companies, Hardware/Software Vendors, as well as, more Technical Directors, Pipeline Developers, Hardware Engineers and Software Developers to help expand the groups insight and knowledge. Please help spread the word to all your colleagues, support contacts and/or customers.

Some more statistics and some goals for next year...

We would like to see more participation on the web site including the sharing of documentation, workflows, and testing, using the on-line FORUMS more (instead of through the distribution lists) so topics are easier to find for future reference, adding more photos of meetings and studios in the GALLERY. and finally if everyone can send in their avatars for the FORUMS it would bring the community together that much more.

The second StudioSysAdmins meeting held in Los Angeles went off with great success with a great turnout and talks.

Overall we had about 70 Members sign up for the meeting.

Big news - We will be having our first meeting in Vancouver later this month!

The first StudioSysAdmins meeting in Los Angeles was last night with great success. Regular meetings in this area and more information on what occurred during the meeting will be announced shortly.

Overall we had over 50 Members/new people turn out at the meeting/social event.

Special thanks to RFX and South Paw Technology for speaking and allow the even to take place.

After the event many new people have joined, and as of today we have 153 Members representing 74 Companies. If you havn't joined yet, please do!

With the event in Vancouver the first week in March, we are hoping to expand the group in that area so we can schedule regular meetings.

We are currently looking for candidates that would like to arrange meetings in other cities as well. If you are interested, please contact John Hickson.

The second StudioSysAdmins meeting was held in Toronto last night with a great turnout.
Overall we had about 20 Members at the meeting.

Special thanks to Isilon Systems, Inc. for the great social event after the meeting.
Overall we had about 30 Members show up for some great food and some great conversations.

Major things discussed at this meeting were how to get people more involved with adding content to the site, as well as discussing how we can recruit new members for the group. We are looking for everyone to participate in both adding content, asking questions in the forums, and help with recruiting.

As of today we have 111 Members representing 57 Companies.

Big news that we should have enough members to start holding meetings in Los Angeles in the new Year.

The first StudioSysAdmins meeting was held in Toronto last night with great success.
Overall we had about 15 systems administrators and/or technical directors at the meeting and just over 20 people for the after party.

We discussed a lot of topics and I think everyone can see a lot of potential for this group going forward.

As of today we have 68 Members representing 38 Companies.
Not bad for just a couple of weeks - and we are continuing to grow every day.

StudioSysAdmins is a social networking community dedicated to improving infrastructure, workflows and support across the Entertainment Industry.
